Discovering Buddhism ~ Short Introductory Meditation Courses
Regular 10 day introductory courses are held in March, April, May, June, September and October. The courses give an introduction to Tibetan Buddhism, teach meditation skills and include a two day analytical and single pointed meditation retreat. The courses are led by Ani Karin, a senior Western nun, with daily teachings from a Tibetan Lama.
If you are just interested in Buddhism, or experience problems in your life such as uncontrolled emotions, dissatisfaction, etc - this course will give you some skills to address these problems and make your life more fulfilling and meaningful.
The daily schedule consists of sessions of meditation, teachings and discussion groups. The course leader as well as the Tibetan Lamas of the monastery are available for personal guidance. The daily programme starts at 6.30 am and finishes at 9 pm. The participants are expected to attend all session. Half day silence is kept as a course discipline. All courses are residential with accommodation and food provided. The course starts at 5 pm on the first day (check-in recommended by 3 pm), and finishes at 12 noon on the last day.

Three Month Vajrasattva Retreat 2013
The Vajrasattva retreat in 2012 is now fully booked.
For 2013, following the annual one month meditation course is the annual three-month Vajrasattva retreat. The retreat starts around mid January. The exact date of the retreat has not yet been set. Please check again later in the year. The retreat follows a strict schedule of 4 sessions a day (no teachings).
Conditions of attendance
The retreat is open only to students who have previously attended the one month meditation course at Kopan, or have done a similar Lam Rim course, such as the FPMT Discovering Buddhism course in a center or as home study. Preferably the applicant should have received the Vajrasattva Initiaton with commitment to do retreat. Applications are accepted from September 2012. We recommend early booking even if you are planning to come to the one month course in 2012.

Transforming your mind, transforming your life
Feb 26 - March 4
In this 6-day introductory course you will receive an overview over the principles of Tibetan Buddhism. You will also learn how to meditate using the different styles of meditation common to Buddhist Practice.
The course is taught by Ven. Palzang, an experienced monk and teacher from Singapore. A Tibetan Geshe will give some lectures during the course on how to establish a meditation practice, as well as question and answer session.
The course starts in the afternoon of the 26th, and finishes after lunch on the 4th March.
You are welcome to stay on for the Great Prayer Festival at Kopan, which starts on the 5th March

The Great Prayer Festival - Monlam Chenmo March 5th - 9th
In the great tradition of the Gelug lineage, every year thousands of monks and nuns
gather for five days for prayer and pujas for world peace. Extensive offerings are made
honoring these days. The Monlam Festival ends on the Day of Miracles, commemorating the
day when Shakyamuni Buddha performed miracles to subdue the Tirtikas.

Monlam teachings with Jangtse Choeje Khensur Losang Tenzin March 11th - 24th
Jangtse Choje Khensur Losang Tenzin, the next in line to Ganden Tripa, is teaching again at Kopan Monastry following the Great Prayer Festival. His teachings are renowned for their clarity and profoundness, bestowing special blessings to all who listen.
- He is continuing his teachings on the Lam Rim Chenmo with the Special Insight Chapter. (7 days).
- Ghuyasamaja Initiation (as preparation for the Lama Choepa Commentary. (2 days).. (Special commitments apply)
- Vajrayogini Blessing Empowerment (only for those who have already received this initiation) (1 day).
- The four fold experim ential commentary to Lama Chopa (5 ? 6 days). Long life puja with long life initiation.

A Place for Rest and Reflection
A Place for Reflection and Contemplation
In between courses, you are welcome to stay at Kopan and enjoy the peace and quiet in a spiritual environment. You can participate in the teachings, meditations and discussion daily at 10 am (Mo-Fri; please check with our reception), enjoy our wonderful library, or attend the prayer session of the monks. We recommend that you book accommodation for your private stay in advance. A minimum stay of three days is required.
Please note: Kopan is not a resort or hotel. We expect our guests to respect the monastic environment and follow the guest rules.
