Thubten Shedrup Ling Monastery sets up of Buddhist school and hostel for the local community.

It started with a small group of monks  in a run down monastery in a remote area in Solu around 15 years ago. At that time Snowlion Foundation, the charity who had been taking care of the Tibetan refugee camp for the past 40 years, had resettled most of the Tibetan refugees, and the camp was to be closed.

The school and hostel associated with the refugee camp was in danger of being closed as well, when Thubten Shedrup Ling Monastery stepped in request of the Tibetan Goverment in exile, to ensure that Buddhist education was avaiablle for the children in that area. The school teaches Tibetan language, and Buddhist culture, helping to preserve the religious traditions of the area. The school and hostel is popular with the local sherpas, who want to ensure that their children receive a Buddhist education and learn Tibetan.

The school is now thriving, with 127 children attending classes, and more than 45 children staying at the hostel. Read More about  Thubten Shedrup Ling School and hostel here
